i ALSO COLLECTED WITH VERNON BROU IN THE Early seventies. we were at the Lep Soc meeting in Sarasota. Had all his night equipment in his trunk. He was active in Insect Net for a long time. Is he still around ? BEST TOM Tom, Talked to Vernon recently and he’s doing ok although the hurricanes toppled a bunch of his trees. He’s still writing and doing his research although his collecting has slowed some.

Hey Bill, sorry to be a bother but I was looking at your C. regalis specimen drawer (via my phone) and you have a large female specimen located at the bottom with a pink tag.
In looking closely at the tag it looks like you have 158 mm written on it but, then again I'm using my phone.
If that is the correct number I am reading then that specimen beats mine (by a little bit) but, I have to go back home tonight after work and see what my specimen is because, I have a tag with the number on it and I can't remember it off hand.
Is your largest poly female larger?
What numbers are we looking at for that largest of polyphemus ?

Trehopr1………no problem.
Btw……gotta thank you as I remeasured those two largest male polys marked w yellow dots and did it w the glass top removed. Each has a wingspan of 154mm or 6”. My rough measurement before was done wrongly from a closed drawer through the glass. . Duh. The largest female poly was 145mm.
Yes, the female regalis was 158mm, but her left FW tip had a piece missing. Had it been there, she would have gone over 160mms for sure.

The most amazing collection of saturniids billgarthe, just spectacular. And a Polyphemus at 154mm, huge. What are the biggest sizes for E. imperialis? I have a female at 140mm, I am sure there are bigger.

Hey Bill, I checked over my C. regalis (female) last night and she is 154 mm so yours has me beat. These can certainly be some big busters from time to time.
I agree with mothman55's comments -- incredible holdings !
If you happen to look over your E. imperialis could you also check your E. oslari. You have a couple there also that look mighty impressive in size.
Thank you if you have the time to check these.
Uh-oh, you seem to have forgotten Promethea or, maybe you were just waiting for us to digest all these wonderful images !
Those are some incredible large (male) poly's. I have nothing like those...

I’ll look at the oslari later. I don’t recall having any particular monsters of these, but I’ll check. You’re right….forgot the promethea. I’ll be adding to these after some cocoons I have eclose later on. Ok……my largest E. oslari was 140mm.

This is one of my drawers containing all personally reared specimens. Everything you see was reared by me from egg. I still have yet to spread most of my non-reared leps.
