Okay, a bit off topic... So I was trying to buy the Matsuka book before they closed and I guess I just missed it because now they're telling me the book's no longer available. I'm trying to buy it directly from the publisher from Japan which is about the same price (everywhere else it's like twice the price) but apparently they are not shipping to Canada due to the pandemic. However, they do ship to the USA!?! It's ridiculous because I can literally drive to the US border in an hour! Anyway, I'm thinking about using a parcel forwarding service like myus.com but they will only accept a package and not handle any import fees/duties should that arise. My question is, for importing a book worth about $300 USD, are there any extra fees or would it be delivered to a US address with no additional charges once it lands and customs determines it's not a restricted item? I tried to look this up online but got some conflicting information and I don't want to take a chance on a book that will cost about $500 CAD. Anyone here bought a book (or some other benign item) from outside the US recently who can speak to the import process? Thanks! If they could send from Japan via post and declare as a scientific material ( publishing ) you shouldn’t pay any custom duty or tax. Never paid any additional border fees on my scientific supplies coming from Europe.

Thanks Paul, but are you talking about importing to Canada or importing to the USA?

In the US, books are duty free. I have purchased books many times from dealers outside the US, and have never had any duty or other fees applied.

I've got a couple orders in too, but haven't heard back. I may reach out and see if they have a status update.

Well, now whatever's left is 25% cheaper, and the books are discounted a bit more, it was bound to go down this way, buy early, or take your chances, no books left I can use, and I played it safe in the beginning. At least the catalogue is showing unavailable items.

I know that BioQuip officially closed on March 11, but does anyone here still have any pending transactions with them? The website is still online, but I assume that they are no longer taking any orders.

The website is still online, but I assume that they are no longer taking any orders. I have a pending order, the site is still up and they have changed the closing date for the 31rst of this month, the list of available inventory is broken into 4 categories, with prices and the amounts available of any particular item still left. Not a lot left, but there might be something you want still left. They seem to be keeping good track of the whole thing, and updating the site. My last order was placed a few weeks ago, and is still classified as "preparing for shipment".

Thanks for the update; I'll go take a look at what's still left.

I had an order with them I made in early December and just received a notice they are shipping it out today so they must be working through their orders and inventory. I was surprised to hear from them as I thought the order which included a open faced cabinet was not going to be done.

Does this mean that individual specimens from their collection are no longer available for sale (via online or in person)? The entire collection is now a package deal?

I placed an order for several individual specimens the first week of March and have not heard anything even after an email inquiry a couple weeks ago. However, an order around then from Bioquip itself for supplies did arrive yesterday. So I wonder if perhaps it is as you say that Bioquip Bugs is now being sold as a unit and not individual items. I’m curious if anyone has had a similar experience.

Anyone want to go in on a combined bid? I'm mostly joking since all of insectnet could probably pool their money and not get the high bid.
Any guesses on what the approximate final price will be? I've only looked through the beetle specimen lists, so I don't really have any idea. Does $50,000 seem like a ballpark number? More?
