I have just heard that my old friend the famous Japanese Lepidopterist Yasusuke Nishiyama died early this morning of cirrhosis.
This is very sad news. I will post more later.

Here are some photos of him from 2 March 2006 at Tad Xai, Thabok, Laos: With Khamboun SP, a famous Lao butterfly tour guide. Some Lao butterflies have been named after him too (such as Euthalia khambounei): Adam.

I also got a message that Yasusuke Nishiyama has passed away. His contribution to the Japanese butterfly world was enormous. His butterfly magazine, TSUISO, has been around since 1975. I got the last issue about a week ago. Papilionidae of the World, a recent publication by Nakae, was supervised by him. He also authored Part 1 of The Butterflies of the South East Asia Islands series together with Tsukada.
RIP, Chotaro - his nickname we use when we fondly call him.

2022 has been a bad year for entomologists, and it's only April. We have lost some of the top experts in their fields. I hope 2023 will be better.

I hope the rest of 2022 will be better than the first few months too.
