I don't mean to be offensive and I know you said these specimens are old - and maybe your technique has changed by now. But have you considered using a smaller gauge pin while mounting? A 000 or even minuten should be used and then removed while the paper holds the wings down. If you do use bigger pins you should remove them while the moth dries, allowing that flap of wing to fall back into place to close the hole.
