catching my first male Diana and then my first female Diana a year later are definately some of my best collecting memories. When you see the contrasting black/orange male on an orange milkweed, you have to stop and admire it. My only female was my only sighting of a female of that species and it was do-or-die with the net. Luckily I was able to admire in hand

Thank you,Johnny ! rayrard - I'm very envious of you that you have observed and collected with your net this great butterfly in the wild - it must be a thrill to catch the female ! Like it is the female of Limenitis populi here in Greece . Clark, perfect ! Your female is blue, mine is green - I love the variation in this species, too. I haven't spread my male yet,but will do it soon. It's in perfect condition, like the female. Thank you Tom(beetlehorn) once again for these magnificent specimens ! Thanos

it's still weird I can't find one for sale anywhere. It's one of the few nice large butterflies I don't have
Sometimes males are available. I got a nice one from Ken Thorne recently

Yes-----collecting and rearing these beauties is indeed special. I have say that the numbers of these guys are WAY down the last two seasons. I know there are population swings both ways, but hope to have them return to the great years of 2008 and 2009.

So the Newark fair isn't all bad then - I have never gone up there.
