I use the same technique as entoman, but I use plastic model airplane glue (because I used to build lots of plastic model airplanes and I'm familiar with how it dries). I've tried Elmer's, but it sometimes causes the wing to curl as it dries. Mixing it with alcohol sounds like a good idea. Instead of note cards I use regular computer paper because heavy paper can cause another wing tear.

I use egg white and a small amount Isopropyl alcohol. Shake well before use. I use small laboratory test tubes with a real rubber stopper. Shake well before use. I have a #2 stainless steel insect pin embedded in a 1/4 inch dowel rod.
Lick the pointed end of the pin in the dowel rod. Dip the pin in the mixture, slide the damp pin with the mixture on one side of the slit. I primp the area with a dry pin. Works 95% of the time for me.
