This Heteropteryx dilatata is a nice pure yellow form. Not so uncommon but good to see. Johnny Attachments:

Johnny
I was at a dealer's place in Tapah Hills Malaysia 2002 and he was getting about 30-40 Heteropteryx dilatata daily, out of those 30-40 would have one or two pure follow form. So I guess the ratio is about 30:1. I baught a few live yollow form from him but I should've get the dried instead because they were so hard to keep the colour and I didn't have any borax with me at the time. So I went back and got a few more dried yellow specimens from him. ;D

That's interesting. Colours can be difficult to keep with many orthoptera as well of course.

That's a really mixed up insect!. It doesn't seem to be a bilateral gynandromorph, more like a mosaic with bilateral tendancies. The abdomen does seem slimmer than a normal female, maybe the tip is a bilateral split.

Johnny
Mosaic or bilateral we all know the possibility of that happening is only 1:10000..........
Do you have any new beetles catch/acquisition from this year you wanna add to share with everyone on show Your Favorite Specimen thread?

I agree that the chances of finding a gynandromorph are pretty slim, I don't have any in my collection.
I have acquired a few specimens this year, mostly dragonflies I have caught myself here in the UK. I posted a picture of the migrant hawkers, I shall post a picture of a large female brown hawker I caught this summer. Although reasonably common, they are difficult to preserve well, I have good preservation technique though - I shall post a picture later.

I found a Gynandromorph Extatosama tiaratum on a tree in my garden , the interesting thing was , the male half of the brain was telling it to mate with the female it was hanging off but the genitalia told another useless story , I have a pic of the pair alive somewhere on my external hardrive and the preserved Gynandro in my coll.
