I think that you are right on the money there, John... I have been sitting in various insect room/studies, full of the stuff, for 50+ years and by rights, according to some facts above, I should have full blown liver disease and leukaemia...It's strange that my blood count and liver function tests keep coming back as normal...BTW, I still use it and can buy it...

I really envy you guys outside Europe who can still get PDB as it does seem to be the only thing that works. I had somebody ship me some from the States a year or two ago but the shipping costs would be far too much for a decent amount.
As usual, the authorities overreact and ban anything that's effective, try getting any herbicide that's been shown to work - they're all now banned and their replacements are crap. They're banned because they're dangerous; of course they're dangerous - they're poisons; do they think we're going to eat them?
It's yet another case of the nanny state, or superstate in the case of the EU; and we're all fed up with it. I fail to understand why people should be protected from their own stupidity!

What do you gentlemen in EU use as a killing agent?
Can any of these be purchased legally in the EU?
Potassium cyanide Calcium cyanide Ethyl acetate Ammonia carbonate Vapona Carbon tetrachloride Acetone
I hope you noticed that I recognized all of you as gentlemen?
Am I correct???

Personally I don't use any such killing agent. In the field I pinch, at home I use the freezer. However this post has been discussing insecticides for collection preservation, and from everything I've heard or experienced PDB is the only effective treatment. As far as I'm aware Vapona and Carbon tetrachloride are banned, Potassium cyanide is only available with a license and Ethyl acetate is freely avaiable, but I could be wrong as I haven't checked and I don't know about the others. Far be it from me to say whether I, or anyone else here, is a gentleman. Bob

You can still purchase paradichlorobenzene in the UK even though it is officially banned. I also took the precaution of buying alot before the ban as I knew it was coming.
