I would be grateful if someone could help me identify what kind of beetle this is. I have lived in the same house for more than 20 years and do not recall seeing this particular kind before 4 days ago. Since seeing the first we have now seen about 10 crawling on the walls, ceilings and floors of one floor of the house. Their sudden and mostly concentrated abundance leads me to believe they may have just spawned only recently. We think they may have come in with some of the plotted plants brought in for the winter 3 months ago. It is also possible that they came with some visitors that have been staying here for the past month. They had been traveling extensively in Vietnam and Korea before coming to stay. For the record, I have already looked through the Ontario section of this (frustrating, no 'select all' option?) Canadian government website: www.cbif.gc.ca/spp_pages/carabids/phps/on_e.phpbut nothing that I saw really matched. Any help identifying them would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm not familiar with this forum software. I guess the pic did not attach the first time. Trying again...

To my uninitiated eye it looks like a Vine Weevil, a common pest species of potted plants. They live as white grubs feeding on the roots. Unpot one of your plants and see if there are any still feeding, if so apply a systemic insecticide. Dave

I looked up Vine Weevil and that is exactly what it is. Thank you so much. That's a big relief as I see they won't do any damage.
If anyone has any specific products for getting rid of them they'd recommend from personal experience that would be great.
I should be able to handle it after the help from Saturn, though.
Thanks again.
