hi to all. this is my first time posting and my insect knowledge is Very limitted. this "mantis" (i presume) was found on a plant containing butterfly larvae and we suspect that it is responsible for consuming all of the larvae because there are not many left...it is in australia by the way. any insight would be appreciated!!

It is not a mantis but a harmless prickly stick insect. I used to rear those here in England, they only eat leaves. Something else must have taken the caterpillars, birds perhaps? Dave
