Very nice specimens, dunc. The ssp. britannicus is morphologically similar to the sphyrus from Sicily. Are them wild caught or bred?

Hi dunc I saw plenty of our Swallowtail this year along the Weavers Way at Hickling Broad where both male and females were nectaring on Yellow Flag, Ragged Robin and Red Campion. Nice specimens, a really lovely subspecies.
Peter.

seems like hippocrates is a very variable species, especially the summer form. Peter, is britannicus seen in good numbers every year, it is supposedly on the increase.

Hi dunc The Swallowtail in the Norfolk Broads is doing quite well. I have seen it in good numbers at Hickling in the past two years. A good place to see it is in the Hickling nature reserve, but the best place is the Weavers way, south of the main broad. Here I spent a rare lovely English summer's day this year with as many as ten of this lovely butterfly, floating around me nectaring on the flowers mentioned. A magical moment to remember.
Peter.

After seeing all those beautiful Papilio machaon specimens, I thought I post a few pictures that I took this year. They show my favourite British butterfly, Papilio machaon britannicus in its Fenland home. It is illegal to collect this butterfly in nature reserves, so one has to take away images rather than specimens. Especially for Dunc who has yet to see it there. Peter. Attachments:
