Thanks Adam, yes that makes sense. I will just check some of my specimens and see which locality is as close as possible to Daba Mountain and then try it around that time. That could probably also help me a bit with height, and then I just need to get lucky. I will report it later here this year what I will have found.
I also just love Luehdorfia, I almost have all subspecies from Luehdorfia chinensis, also Luehdorfia longicaudata, and Luehdorfia puziloi from China. Haven’t started with the Japanese ones yet.

I assume you are going to try to catch L. longicaudata wangi which comes from Daba Shan. It will be interesting to see photos of some specimens and find out if it really is worth separating as a subspecies.

I have a couple of L. chinensis from same Japanese collector. I have always wanted to get a L. longicauda but they are expensive.

I went near taibai shan early in the season during March. Although temperature varies, it was very cold and cloudy when I visited. If the seasons in the daba mnt are anything like chongquings then I would recomend searching for them mid April.
Ps: I too would be interested in any specimen data anyone has.

Luehdorfia spp. are quite popular among Japanese butterfly lovers. We have two species (japonica and puziloi) here and many people enjoy colleting and photographing the beauty. I am looking forward to seeing them again in coming spring. In some places, these two species are protected by law. But in other areas it is OK to collect them. If you overseas guys want to visit Japan for collecting them, I will advice you where to go. See my video clips of Luehdorfia japonica.
