I have found out that the endangered O. paradisea paradisea was never exported by the ' Insect Farming and Trading Agency ' because it was only known from Madang province and the PNG government would not allow the sale of specimens. The specimens IFTA sold at Wau were O. paradisea borchi which were obtained from a few butterfly farmers in the Sepik Province. In most years only a few specimens were obtained for sale by IFTA of borchi, and these were mostly A2. However, I have been in touch with a collector who received from them a A1 male borchi specimen with a huge wingspan of 141mm. [wow that is one huge paradisea ] and I am pleased to say I have a specimen that matches that, which was bred by the man who helped start these Sepik butterfly farmers, one Harry Borch.
