He may have mended his ways to get some money now. He used to work under the name W. Bryce Richfield. Too bad he has not sent back the money he scammed from people in the past .

Good to know. I may have been a lucky one. Doubt I would do business with him that involved serious money.

I traded with Wayne once. My package was destroyed unfortunately during shipping. He still sent me specimens. I've seriously upgraded my shipping containers after this mistake. Recently been working on another trade will keep everyone posted. My parcel should be here this week.

Saw the note below in an old Lep Soc publication. You would order say a pair of P. coelus for $5,000.00 from him. He would claim to have sold out. He would send you a voucher for $5,000.00. The next week the voucher would be worth $4,000.00, the next week $3,000.00, the next week nothing. Total scammer from the past. He ripped off several friends of mine back when.
"A WORD OF CAUTION•••••••••• When you purchase or sell specimens with a Dealer or specimen supply firm, make It a point to read and fUlly understand the terms of sale. Do this before sending any money or specimens. Many members of the Lepidopterists' Society have conducted business with W. Bryce Richfield of Goleta, California and have had some very unsatisfactory results. However, had these members read the terms and condition of sale, these situations could very well have been avoided. W. Bryce Richfield clearly states In his terms and condition of sale that the dealer has the option to exchange, replace, refund, or Issue a voucher. On unfilled orders or parts there of, a backorder or voucher may apply. He further states that unlike other dealers, he does not, with rare exception, refund, and is not legally obliged to do so. W. Bryce Richfield operates and conducts his business from a Post Office box and does not list a phone number. Before doing business with W. Bryce Richfield or any other dealer or firm, be sure"

Just a comment. I think some buyers have a severe misunderstanding about the meaning of "terms of sale". This is obvious now in e-bay. Apparently many people believe that if the seller write down an outrageous condition in the terms of sale, the buyer is liable to follow them. For example if the terms of sale are: "We do not accept returns. If you complaint, we will kill you". This does not entitle the seller to legally kill you, if something happens, and you complaint. Terms of sale need to be within a legal framework, and the conditions be reasonable. Otherwise they are a scam, pure and simple.

Trying to get a follow up on Wayne Bryce Richfield. Anyone made a deal or been in contact with this person in the past year, few months. Looking into several entomological societies news letters (back 1987) I found this address (still in use???): P.O. Box 1066-M, Goleta, CA 93116-1066 USA Is this guy honest, can he be trusted for insect sale? Looking forward to reading you comments.

Mr Bryce Richfield is a true character and an unbelievable thief. He purchased some equipment from me and the check bounced like a rubber ball.
My involvement with USPS as part of the fraud case that ended when he up and disappeared. I know there was a warrant for his arrest but that was 40+ years ago.
For some reason I thought he was dead.
