Hi, is there an easy way how to pair Pieris brassicae in captivity? Oviposition should be easy on Brassica sp. I would like to try something with my nephews & nieces. Thanks Jonathan www.satyrinae.yolasite.com/

Is the goal specifically to pair them? then i can't help you much. If you just want to rear them to show your nephews and nieces i'd suggest only catch a female. She will most likely be fertilized and lay eggs easily as u said.

HI Jonathan I would find the pairing quite difficult as well especially if you do not provide a large space and plenty of nectar plants. Most pieridae are difficult to pair and I have managed pairings by hand pairing a wild collected male colias crocea with a virgin female(bred). With brassicae I would try anaestatising a female and place it a wide leaf with wings open where brassicae fly. Regards Aldo

Thanks Wolf & Aldo. I'll try with the large space method and see what happens.

If the female you have was collected from the wild, she is probably already been mateded will not accept another mating.
