I use Ethyl acetate for general material and for the big stuff (saturniids and the like), I inject them with Isopropyl alcohol sold in most all drug stores and supermarkets.

I like a cyanide jar for small leps. It has a quick knock down and death which leaves the bugs very limp and manageable. Just ease the jar over the bug on the sheet and they usually jump off the sheet and you can then easily put the lid on. May not be able to travel with this in your luggage though.
Big material use an injection of ammonia 2 to 3 ml for instant kill.
