HI every one I have some questions about Morpho diana distribute in Venezuela.. I always heard some one says,Morpho diana is very very rare species, there are only about 100 specimen have been collected during 1920s-1940s,now,they may extinct/die out.. And I asked some of my friends, one of them says:they are quiet common in Venezuela, the reason of their becoming rare is that there are no people go there to collect.... This really puzzled me,I need your help. Please tell me which opinion you agree or what"s your opinion. Thank you! Sam

i would say morpho diana is indeed quite commonly found in Venezuela, the real reason its rarely seen or heard of is because of that very reason of never being a species which is either bred, or wildly collected. i don't think it would be likely be close to extinction or indeed rare as the rain forest is quite dense. shouldn't be a reason for this species to be extinct yet by any means.
