I am currently in California and having an amazing time with Clark and Bill. Today I took some pictures of my most favorite butterfly, if something like that actually exists, Philotes sonorensis. They are pretty difficult to photograph as they barely rest but luckily I came across this male which was feeding on different flowers. Enjoy:

I have just had a look at this striking uncommmon species on the web. I expect you have been exploring those rocky canyons. Looking forward to the video. I expect this is a protected species.

I would love to see this species when i come over but unfortunately it says it only flies February to March. Hopefully there will be lots more species to see in Clovis in May.

Hi, just a quick reply as I am sitting on the airport in Orlando on my way to the McGuire Center in Gainesville. Thanks for the comments. The butterfly is not protected otherwise I would not have taken the long way to get there. Here is a picture of a canyon where it flies: Steve, I wish you luck in Clovis.

We local collectors call this canyon 'Shanrgi-la' because of all the leps and insects down there. Its proper name is San Antonio Creek in the San Gabriel Mountains, Los Angeles County.

. I have just enjoyed the nicely filmed and informative video of your trip collecting butterflies in the Californian mountains. Thank you for posting. Nice to see the star attraction, Philotes sonorensis was caught by Claude who looked to be having a wonderful time. I hope you both breed an excellent series . It would be nice to see other videos posted of collectors in the field. Peter.
