I grew up 3 miles from Brockadale in a small mining village called Upton near Pontefract, miles of countryside to fan a young boys passion for nature.

I was born in Castleford lived in Altofts and worked in ponte. I'm up there regularly but looking forward to June as I'll be going to brockadale to see the Marbled Whites and Dark Green Fritillary's with my father. Hoping to see the Aricia agestis that was spotted a few years ago.

I stated to walk down my house and I saw on my composter nymphalis polychloros. I take few photos. Maybe date was too early for polychloros but looks like he's enjoying the sun. The date was 14. February, location in central Croatia.

Nice photos of "the duke", i collected ova of those about twenty years ago from the Cotswolds, boy there caterpillars can eat, got through loads of primrose, fortunately I spotted the local council pulling out the winter bedding plants from one of the traffic islands near me ready for the summer bedding plants, so I stopped and asked for some, they gave me a bin liner full, all with good roots, I had over 100 very large plants, kept a small colony going for 4 years.

Hi Rich, during your four year breeding programme with the Duke, did you obtain any aberrations. They seem quite rare in this Metalmark.

There was some variation in ground colour / intensity of the darker markings but nothing you would call abberant, I only kept a few pairs, most of the larvae / pupae I exchanged for other British livestock as I was breeding quite a lot back then, don't get the time now.
