If you guys catch some extras, I'd be interested in some of those. Might go down that way next month.

I've been catching falcate orangetips (Anthocharis midea) since Feb.18. Caught some Calycopis isobeon today. Got a southern dogface and a couple of swallowtails last week (pipevine, palamedes) Saw P glaucus, but couldn't catch it. Caught 3 A. luna on the wall of a convenience store in mid-afternoon. Wish P. sonorensis was in my area. Looking forward to the new collecting season. Hope everybody has a good year.

Wow! Now that a lot for this early. I don't expect to see anything until late March.

I had 25 inches of snow in my yard yesterday. A little jealous of you who already have nets out.

You had snow? I'm just waiting till the first flowers start blooming here in the Reno area. So far, the beginning of April is when it starts popping here. We are supposed to get snow on Monday and Tuesday, but after the last couple of "big" storms, we didn't get anything except a drizzle last weekend. Planning on going to Auburn for the Sonoran Blues, but feel that they might be almost done, or I might of missed their flight.

On Thursday I found the first good beetle of the year, a Lucanus capreolus. Never found one this early before. Then on Friday we got sleet/rain/snow. This weather is crazy.

Saw my first Pieris yesterday (boy am I out of practice -- missed it) with the snow now melted at my house. I believe I read that is Mr Oehlke's cue to take the cocoons out of the fridge, so I'm following suit.

Caught my first butterflies of the year today! It was around 70 and sunny. I caught 5 Pieris rapae and 1 badly worn Vanessa cardui. Also saw several Vanessa atalanta and missed one perfect Nymphalis antiopa . I hope this weather continues.

Congrats on the P. epimenis. I tried with no luck for 20 years to find those things. Finally found a dead one last year.
