Hello Friends! I am a new/old member. I actually joined back in 2011! I have just retired from State service as an Agricultural Inspector and have lots of free time on my hands now! I started collecting when I was about 8 yrs old and by the time I was 12, started my first "bug club" in the neighborhood. Over the years I have enjoyed doing bug shows for children in elementary schools, Parks and Rec and even the Forest Service. I devote most of my time to butterfly gardening and enjoy breeding 7 different native butterflies in my backyard. Since I am in SoCal I can usually see butterflies all year long! I have two grown children who were raised with caterpillars in jars on the kitchen table. My daughter is an RN with the US Navy (enlisted) and my son is one of three entomologists working for the DOD (Civil Service). They are both at the Norfolk Naval base in Virginia. Excited to be back!

Hi, I am a New Zealander but living in Sydney. I've had a lifelong interest in insects and collect a few groups, mainly Cerambycidae, Saturniidae and occasional others.

Lifelong collector and amateur lepidopteran. European butterflies, especially limenitis, parnassius, charaxes. Have gradually been turning towards conservation, which means the net has been replaced by a camera. I am still very passionate about field studies and sensible collecting. Also, I am a writer and a historian.

Welcome to Insectnet. Please feel free to contribute, I am sure people would be interested to read your posts and see photos that you may wish to share. I guess everyone is in favour of "sensible collecting", except those people who are totally anti-collecting, period. Unfortunately most of them don't seem to realise that it is impossible to study insects properly without collecting specimens as examples.
Adam.

Hi Fellow Entomologists, I am happy to be among those who value insect biodiversity! I am a Biology Teacher and enjoy studying tropical lepidoptera as well as setting up lights to study Catocala. Globally insect biodiversity has dropped 45% in numbers globally. I feel the wanton devestation of ecosystems in the tropics needs to be a key issue in this forum. Palm oil, cattle ranches and the like are pushing the Amazon (17% lost)close to a tipping point (as noted by Dr. Thomas Lovejoy)of which 20 to 25% may very well turn this magical place into savannah or worse. Please see Utube video of Orangutan attempting to fight off bulldozer in Borneo......I am much interested in conversing with fellow entomologists on proactive ways to push back against this human inflicted mass extinction which has truly begun. Also BWorthy, my e-mail address is morpho7blue@aol.com
