You are a new member here, please tell us more about you and your insect passion. Hello all, I am a butterfly collector. I'm 68 and continuing my collection started at age 10 with a hiatus of about 50 years. I was originally intending to be an entomologist but ended up being a fisheries biologist instead. I retired after 35 years of that and now I'm back to butterflies. I've been buying and mounting butterflies from around the world and I am finally getting fairly good at it (at long last). I have a question for anyone out there with an answer. What is the standard pinning height for Lepidoptera? I bought a pinning block but these things are made to standardize the position of the bottoms of specimens (to leave room for data cards) rather than the tops. I'll have to make my own. But what is the correct distance from the bead on the pins to the top of the thoraxes? Randy

I too, have taken a long hiatus from collecting butterflies (have been focusing more on beetles for the past 30 years or so), but my interest in Lepidoptera has now come back just as strong as it was in my earlier years, and I look forward to discussing it with the other hobbyists here, and learning of the latest developments in methods for relaxing / spreading / mounting specimens.

Hey there! I'm an amateur entomologist looking to get more connected to the online community. I'm specifically interested in Archaeognatha and other wingless insects and their connection to Pterygota. I'm going to be performing an experiment this summer on the gliding capabilities of North American bristletails, and I'm super excited. Feel free to PM me about anything!

Hello to everyone! My name is Hugo, I am from Spain. I have been collecting insects since I was a little kid..... now I am 18. I love every butterfly that gets in front of my eyes, especially Papilionini (and the ones from the Caribbean), Parnassinae, Teinopalpus, Bhutanitis, Ornithoptera, Luehdorfini......and I could be writing all day. I am looking forward exchanges.... if anyone would like to get lepidoptera from Spain, let me know! I am very thankful to be part of this group and learn from everyone. Cheers Hugo

Hi everybody, Just love arthropods for their diversity in shape, colour and size. Some specimens I've inherited from my father and are almost 50 years old like Papilio machaon 1973. Some imagos will hatch in a few days and will be released like Deilephila elpenor (there were dozens of large caterpillars around the pond last July). Cheers, Laurent,

Hey everyone, I'm Mo, a grad student in Mchigan. I've been looking for a decent bug identification forum for a while, since there are a few interesting bugs near my home and lake I've been wanting to identify. Hope I can get your help in my next thread. Nice to meet you all!
