Hello, I am glad to join this board. I am raising giant silk moths (Saturniidae) indoors in northern Arizona as an educational project for students with a local nature center. I have just completed raising Citheronia regalis, Actias luna, Callosamia promethea, Antherea polyphemus to pupae/cocoons and am finishing up with a group of Hyalophora cecropia. I have also raised Rothschildia on the same plant, to optimal size. I have a website where I document what I'm doing with livestream videos. I raise everything very successfully on the same plant, the desert-adapted Rhus trilobata. All these "eastern" species attain maximum size when reared on it even though it is not described as a host plant for all of them. My website is butterflyandmoth(dot)org. I do not offer specimens for sale, as my interest is limited to sharing this hobby with students and others. My actual career in life has been as a professional illustrator and sculptor in the gift industry.

It's a crane fly (daddy-long-legs), family Tipulidae. Welcome to Insectnet. In future, if you have more identification requests please post them in the Bug Identification section at insectnet.proboards.com/board/12/bug-identification so people will see them. You should also include a location, at least to country. Adam. PS. It cannot bite or sting, so no need to worry about it.

Hello from New Mexico currently, I previously had a life in ornithology research in SA and Australia before leaving that world to pursue my true passion of mammal taxidermy as a full time career 10ish years ago. I have always maintained a passion for all natural history, which brings me to this forum. I have collected a bilateral gynandromorph Boopedon nubilum, locally called boopies or black males grasshopper, which explains why it was so shockingly easy to identify this one as it is obviously bilaterally half black and half female colored .. I was looking for info on preserving/pinning/display options. Will throw pics up in the appropriate section and try and utilize the search functions before hammering any questions. Cheers
