If this is the wrong area I apologize, please point me to the right one.
I’m a photographer and I’ve wanted to use an atlas moth-or really any big moth-in a photoshoot for a bit now, today I decided to do research into purchasing them before the summer is over but when I searched for insect breed sea in the in the CT/NYC/MA area I don’t get any results outside of a few online shops. Most moths seem to live for less than a week so a live specimen seems unlikely and I don’t have the expertise nor time to raise a few from eggs. I was wondering if any of you had a line on breeders or shops in the tri-state area, thanks for any help you can provide.

Breeding exotics in USA w/o a license is illegal, and licenses are not granted. If anyone has atlas, they won't tell you.
Local cecropia adults are long since dead, and there are a million photos available.
If you want live, check with the local butterfly zoos. Otherwise, use dead- nature conservancy and others do.

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea they were illegal to breed; honestly I know next to nothing about moths themselves aside from loving how they look, are there any breeders of domestic moths in the north eastern states? And are there any breeds of moths that are big that are also domestic, almost every search I do comes back with the Atlas which makes sense as they seem to be the biggest but as you’ve said I run into issues there. Thanks for the info so far and thanks for any more if you can provide it, cheers.

Attacus atlas is a common species in SE Asia. There are also thousands of photos of those but they are a spectacular moths indeed counting their size and colourful wings.

Quite a few people sell live cocoons of US Saturniidae in the fall to hatch the following spring. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to do this. Visit www.silkmoths.bizland.com/cocoons.htm Bill Oehlke Many photographers have sent me beautiful images of moths they have photographed from cocoons they purchased from me. I sell only North American Saturniidae species, no foreign livestock
