There is a blue white banded "morph" of the common and normal Kallima inachus that is nowadays referred to as Kallima inachus alboinachus. Furthermore, there had been a separate species Kallima albofasciata Moore, 1877 from the Andaman islands that had been known for a long time. Kallima albofasciata continentalis was, when I remember correctly a name given to a population of Kallima inachus alboinachus. Furthermore, as I found now the stock and provenance of ssp.: continentalis is of doubtful origin. I would just suggest to completely forget about this name. insectnet.proboards.com/thread/5678/kallima-albofasciatus-continentalis-synonymI always liked Kallima, and potographed them in some museums. I always wanted to publish something on them, but never went through with it.

From this thread I can see that the most recent book on Kallima also treats albofasciata as a subspecies of inachus, which I find the most sensible approach in the whole discussion. insectnet.proboards.com/thread/6251/butterflies-world-44-kallima-ppersSo you have Kallima inachus inachus (Doyère, 1840) (yellow bands), Kallima inachus albofasciata Moore 1877 from Andamans, and Kallima inachus alboinachus Nakamura & Wakahara, 2013. (Around that time white banded Kallima from Laos had also been sold by Collard and it was described by him under a different name. I can't remember the name anymore.).

I suppose it is : ssp.inachus ( N.Vietnam ) If from south Vietnam it could be also siamensis.

There are 3 species of Kallima in Vietnam (excluding knyvettii), K. inachus, K. limborgii and K. alicia. According to Nakamura (2014, Butterflies, 66: 22-39 all 3 species are found in southern Vietnam, but only K. limborgii and K. alicia are found in the north, with K. alicia also recorded from central Vietnam. The subspecies are: K. inachus alboinachus with a white band like the specimen in the photo K. limborgii incognita and K. alicia kishii with an orange band Both of the latter two species look like what we all think of as K. inachus, which has an orange band in the rest of its range. These are rather difficult to distinguish, but there are small differences in the orange band and the position of the forewing eyespot, but genitalia are different. nomihoudai said "Furthermore, as I found now the stock and provenance of ssp.: continentalis is of doubtful origin. I would just suggest to completely forget about this name." This is incorrect, there is nothing doubtful about the origin of continentalis which was described from specimens hatched from pupae bred by Sudjai Reuangrit in Kanchanaburi, West Thailand and sent to Stratford where they were bought by Kurt Rumbucher. He was told they came from Kanchanaburi, but actually the breeding stock came from Sisaket, E Thailand. The white banded Kallima does not occur in western Thailand. Subspecies continentalis is a junior synonym of alboinachus and should be listed as such, not forgotten about. You cannot just "forget about" any described name, it has to be assigned to a taxon or listed as a nomen dubium as an uncertain taxon. Nakamura (2014) published the synonymy of continentalis under K. inachus alboinachus. Adam.

I suppose it is : ssp.inachus ( N.Vietnam ) If from south Vietnam it could be also siamensis. Just to clarify, ssp. inachus comes from E. Nepal and NE India. The species Kallima inachus does not occur in northern Vietnam. Subspecies siamensis is found in N & C Thailand and N & C Laos and N & E Burma, it does not occur in Vietnam at all. Subspecies alboinachus is found in southern Vietnam, southern Laos and southeastern Thailand. I assume it also occurs in Cambodia. Adam.

Yes, I just found my copy in some email from you Adam you sent long time ago. Now I am organizing everything in my Books app on iPhone and all is easy to access. This is very helpful paper in terms of distribution of Kalima species so if anyone here study this genus should get the copy of it.

I think this is Kallima limborgii incognata, but can't be absolutely certain from the photo. Importantly it has a vertically elongate eyespot on the forewing, which is the most obvious difference between limborgii and sympatric alicia.

K.alicia,K. limborgii,K inachus look pretty much the same to me. Is it really sure they're different species?
