You talking C or F? I'm presuming F since you're in the US?

-6 F today in central Indiana. It amazes me that there is an entire country north of us. And it really amazes me that they don't whine about the weather more often!

-18C this morning where I live in Ontario.
John, we do complain, often and bitterly, trust me...... And this is considering that probably something like 80% of the Canadian population lives within 100 km of the Canada-USA border. The vast majority of Canada is sparsely populated.

In Toronto at 10am: -18°C, -31°C windchill. Cold and long winters here are the main reason I want to relocate to Thailand. 29 years passed since I arrived here and I still can’t get over the winters here. We stayed here this winter just to remind me how much I hate winters. If not eanough I can complain more ☹️

Paul, dude, go to Thailand as soon as you have the means. I certainly would! Warmer, lower cost of living, and more diversity of lepidoptera!!

It makes me shiver just thinking about those temperatures. Will the next silkmoth brood be killed off? It got down to +36F here (Houston) a few nights ago and I thought that was too cold. Low temps this weekend will be in the upper 50s, highs in the mid-70s.

The silkmoths will be fine, every winter is getting that cold so they are well adjusted. I can’t say the same about my self.

The silkmoths will indeed be fine. A friend in Sweden told me how he reared tropical Attacus atlas in his unheated greenhouse, took some pupae indoors and left the rest to die in the very cold winter there (-20C). The following May he was very surprised when moths hatched from those pupae that had been frozen solid in the greenhouse.

That is surprising indeed. I suppose Attacus atlas is also native to China where winters can be harsh too and developed antifreeze substance.

I may do the same some day.
