I personally just love books because they are books. Beautifully printed, nice and heavy, and always there, while pdfs are just a pain to look at it. That said I had some pdfs of books, and when I liked them after a few pages I bought the book, when I saw that it’s ###ty like some Chinese books on butterflies with horrible colours and wrong scientific names, I even regretted downloading it. For me my collecting hobby includes collecting the books, and I also buy expensive (best quality) insect boxes from Ento Meyer in Munich. I don’t understand it why you would spend hours for collecting spreading and then putting the specimens into a box where you saved a few euros, but then after twenty years specimens are broken. Prof Rose e.g. always bought his boxes in Czech because they were ten euros cheaper than the ones from Munich, but then he bought the most expensive parnassians and Colias, a few hundred euros per specimen and he has thousands of it. But the boxes were poorly made, so now the needles stick into the bottom of the box and you can’t pull the specimens out anymore. He said he regrets not having spent a bit more on the boxes.

Most of the Lepidopterists that I know also collect books on Lepidoptera. I have an extensive Library on North American Lepidoptera. I have never photocopied a book on anything.
