Until it was recently brought up, I wasn't aware you could block other members. Does anyone know what this feature actually does? Is it reversible?
I can envision a few possible ways it works - Blocked person can't PM you - Blocked person can't post on a thread you start - Blocked person's posts don't show up for you at all on any thread
Are any of these close to what actually happens? Thanks for any info.

No. All that happens is that the posts of that person get hidden. You can still read it by pressing a button and you still see that they had posted. They can still quote you and you still get a notification. I don't know if they can PM you. I guess not.
It does help a little, but it's not as strict as I would have liked.

Also, it's reversible.

It is sad for me to read such a thread. If a member puts a bad mood on InsectNet, he should be removed.
I will in the future be much more tough on the very few members who attacks other members or who are totally out of topic (religion, politics, nonsense...).

We from time to time will find different persons annoying, for a number of reasons. I ignore things I don't like,at least here, and from time to time, those same persons have relevant contributions, as long as those polarizing topics are left alone. Not everyone thinks alike, and that's what makes things interesting.

Thank you for clarifying the blocking process. I may take advantage of it at some point should it be needed.
I think my issue may just be the pervasiveness of the behavior. It doesn't matter the topic, there are some folks that post on almost everything. That's not necessarily a bad thing if it adds to the discussion, but if it doesn't...I guess we have the blocking option.
