I found the preserved caterpillar pictures I mentioned, but I'm unable to post them. If someone else wants to post them, let me know and I'll email them to you.

Adam, I downloaded the pictures I have from one of the old posts. I do that occasionally in case someone wants to see them and the old link is no longer available. I don't know what the old link is called or when it was posted. All I have is the pictures from the old link.

Ah, I understand.
Please send them to me and I will post them here. If you also have information about the identity of larvae in the photos please send that too. My e-mail is adamcot@cscoms.com.
Adam.

I forgot to mention that the preservation technique described in the upper photograph was not the technique used to preserve the caterpillars in the lower photos. They were preserved by someone else, but I don't know who or what their technique was. However, I think it was described in the original post.

I remember having seen some (if not all) of those additional larval pictures featured at one of the Juvisy, Paris insect shows. I cannot be sure what year they were shown but, I have those pic's on my Ipad.
I do not think they were prepared in quite the same manner as the D. plexippus larvae. *Quite frankly, they look too good. Even the BEST of the above monarch larvae is lacking in the color and structure of those other larval photo's !
Without doubt, some of those European collectors still have the techniques of (proper) larval preparation mastered and their exquisite pieces are a reflection of this.
While some more modern attempts at "improvisation" of the time honored techniques is admirable (silicon use, hair-driers, etc.); it is still lacking in results of reasonable consistency. Otherwise, we would see much more of this material...

I found the pictures of the larvae which Adam posted via 58chevy. I had them on my Ipad along with the description of the process used. As it turns out the pictured larvae were not prepared in the time honored method; nor were they freeze dried. So, I have resurrected the post describing the manner used !
