The weather near Denver has been fairly cool and snowy this spring and I had not seen a single butterfly yet this year in Colorado.
Finally this afternoon the weather seemed nice and I convinced my wife and youngest son to go out for an adventure. Weather ended up pretty cloudy and around 70°F so not a whole lot was flying and we spent most if the time playing in the creek but I did spend 15 minutes exploring a promising drainage where I saw a few Leps.
South St Vrain Creek West of Lyons Boulder Co. CO April 25, 2021
Nymphalis antiopa Polygonia gracilis Callophrys mossii Epirrhoe plebeculata
Also saw a bunch of other wildlife un the area with elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, a coyote and a garter snake seen.

This will be an interesting year on the front range with the drought. You should have Papilio zelicaon and Pontia sisymbrii out now in some numbers, I would think. Callophrys sheridanii will have been out for awhile but can continue well into May, here and there.

Not much of a drought around denver, apparently it has been the wettest start to the year here in decades. Not true on the west slope or further south.

Headed to Denver/ colo springs tomorrow for a couple days, looks like it’s not worth bringing my net.

Well keep it up. Reports are important even if species are light

Not fair. It snowed there after here, and we have almost nothing flying. I shredded myself and got a few hobomok skippers.
