This is a species of underwing moth. There are approximately 110 species known in North America.
Most of them have hindwings which are gaily colored in oranges, reds, and pinks. However, there are around 17 species which have black colored hindwings.
Some of the dark winged species can be difficult to discern so I won't venture a guess on this one.
Others may be able to provide the specific species however...

Looks like Catocala obscura to me. The apparent white fringe on the HW leads me to think it’s C. obscura and not the very similar C. residua.
