Is this even an insect?

I found a few of these on my dandelion, chicory, and parsley leaves today while picking my salad for the garden. Usually I just rinse the leaves and dump the water down the drain but this little thing caught my eye because it stuck to the bottom of the wash tub that I clean my leaves in. It has a hard shell like a mollusk and what appears to be a 1" spider web type thing that comes out of the middle of it on one side that sticks like a spider web. It was sticking to the bottom of my wash tub.  You can get an idea of how small this thing is by the comparison photos I took of it next to the head and point of a sewing pin.  I have never seen anything like this.



Does anyone know what it is?



Is it even an insect?



Is it an egg of some sort?



Is it a mollusk?



Could this harm me if I eat one of them not knowing it?
