Hellohello! I'm currently rearing a yellow wooly caterpillar that I found in my milkweed garden. Now, this specific milkweed patch is RIGHT next to a tall oak tree sapling, along with a tangle of low-growing plants.
The caterpillar seems to be very insistent on eating milkweed leaves. Apparently this is somewhat common in southwest Michigan... does anyone else want to speculate as to why? Likewise are there any reports of these guys favoring milkweed in any other general area?
Here are some obligatory pictures! Both are of the same cat. I think the color difference between instars is pretty interesting- from a yellowish white to this beautiful coppery orange.
