Dread of what?
Small insects are the least of worries.

Dread of what? Small insects are the least of worries. Can you say what kind of small insects they are?

The smallest look similar to gnats but very hard to see if they have wings. Also House fly, spider, centipede and a beetle.
Looks like the wrong shape for a bedbug. Crawling things like ants or bed bugs would be around the edge since they could not crawl into the adhesive that far.
With the centipede spider and beetle indicates the trap is on the floor and under something?

There is at least one small moth, a housefly, a centipede, an earwig, a spider, a beetle with legs in the air, a book louse and loads of very small unidentifiable insects.

Some of them may well be gnats, possibly a few tiny beetles and maybe micro-moths. I don't think there is anything there that you should worry about.
Adam.

I am suspicious that someone surreptitiously deleted my post, so I'll repeat it:
This thread (not just the sticky sheet) is like a combined game of Where's Waldo and Whodunnit. It is entertaining, fun, and frustrating.
In analogy to Whodunnit, wingedwishes presents evidence of where the sticky sheet was, and orientation, citing "Crawling things like ants or bed bugs would be around the edge since they could not crawl into the adhesive that far". OK, yes, I had figured that out prior to that, but still, did everyone? What else can be observed (or failed to observe!) by the types and location of the specimens on the sticky sheet? Or even they type of sticky sheet?
Where's Waldo on this has been, for me, frustrating. Others have noted particular taxon and I've gone back repeatedly to find the bloody thing, or to see if we agree.
Non-entomologists repeatedly ask "what's this bug?" and a recurring request is for location. One could argue that if we're such experts we should be able to figure it out based on factors including taxonomy. Recently I stumbled across a sticky box trap being used for studies; I peered into the box and saw all manner of specimens stuck in there. And I wondered if, like criminal investigators, or Whodunnit, if the "clues" in the box (or even the box itself) would be sufficient for me to identify the location. And if I failed, who could?
Anyway, it's been fun. I hope we get one like this again.
Chuck

Greetings,
Rather than gnats - I might suggest springtails - in the most recent image, some are definitely springtails. Their ability to jump could explain why so many are scattered all over the surface of the trap. As opposed to crawling onto it, they could be dropping onto it. However, why so many are bouncing around and getting caught is something I can't explain...
Cheers! Bandrow
