Beautiful prep work on that specimen. That species is certainly a delight in its colors.
Thank you for sharing...

Calodema has long been my favorite buprestid genus. They are all spectacular. Many years ago I managed to acquire C. ribbei & C. regale blairi, but not hudsoni. It's on my wish list, but is seldom offered for sale. With the strict US import regulations these days I doubt I'll ever get any more Calodema unless it's through a US supplier. Where was the hudsoni collected?

Where was the hudsoni collected? I would love to have Calodema wallacei or C. ryoi! Highly doubtful that will ever happen either! I've always considered the Calodemas to be sort of the Ornithoptera of the Buprestidae world! They just have a regality that can't quite be matched! Anyways, to answer your question: Hamoini Village - Aseki PNG 2007 Just for fun......this is the VERY first image I ever took with a digital camera waaay back when they FIRST came out! Also my first insect image. It may not be very high quality but it's still my favorite insect photo (of those I've taken myself). Lighting was provided by holding the specimen(on a small piece of foam) up under a kitchen table light with the left hand. Camera in right hand. Very high tech!!!

Let's derail this thread. Are the colors of the legs of the beetle in your avatar real? What species is that?

Let's derail this thread. Are the colors of the legs of the beetle in your avatar real? What species is that? This made me laugh! The species is Promacropoides bertrandi. The legs are not entirely real! I will try and explain! This is a beetle I had years ago and then sold. ONE OF MY GREATEST REGRETS. Fortunately I had taken photos. Before streaming became so popular, I decided I wanted to make myself a custom set of Journey(the band) cd's. It would be a two disk set housed in a special case with all custom artwork. NOT all original, just bits and pieces of Journey art mixed with my own designs to make something unique. I should also add this was NEVER distributed in any way - only done for my own enjoyment and personal set of cd's. I will add a couple photos below and you will see why the legs have feathers. That was done in photoshop. As many will know, a scarab in front of feathers/wings is a common Journey design. This design uses journey art (somewhat modified and refined) combined with my own modified beetle and custom borders.

That's really cool. Of course I know Journey. For holidays I used to do road trips in the US. I would turn on a classic rock channel and drive all day long. "Wheel in the Sky" is a staple for every classic rock channel across the country. It was hard to tell from the small avatar, but now we can see it better.

I just want to clarify that when I said “this made me laugh”, I only meant because of the comment “let’s derail this thread”!!! I can definitely see why the legs would be difficult to make out in the small avatar! For some reason on my phone the very bottom of the avatar is also cut off. I don’t know why. It’s not that way on my computer when viewing the forum. Anyways thanks for your comments!
