Fellas, there is still time for last minute captures in our temperate zone. One of my favorite and last remaining species is the Orange Sulphur (Colias eurytheme). I have found that from late August on thru to late October (some years) this remarkable, resilient, and boldly colored species is well worth the effort. Over these last 5 seasons I have collected 2 drawers worth during the time frame noted above. The drawer below is my "special stock" of wild collected A1 material. A second drawer holds my "secondaries" which are "just a touch" less than these in quality -- but, very worthy of keeping. Some of my boldest, largest, and rather unusual finds have arrived in the months of Sept/Oct. I even have a true "wild caught" mini C. eurytheme in my drawer which I picked up in October 2015. Here are some close-ups of what YOU could be missing out on ! So, for those of you who dare to take-up the net just one or two more times (before all is lost); there are still some goodies and gems left out there to satiate the passion !

Sulphurs are wonderful, and you have a lot of nice specimens, and there are still flyers out there, I saw one fly across the hiway Saturday, not exactly a candidate for capture at the time. Even here at home, I see some wildly flying nymphalids go by every couple days, and I did get a nice hairstreak a few weeks ago i stil have to id.

Couldn't agree more. Orange sulphurs are one of my favourites. In fact I was out each of the last 3 days for an hour or two picking up a few, and most are still fresh. The females (both normal and albino) will be either on the New England aster or hiding down in the grass, while the males are flying around frantically searching for females. I am getting pretty good sweeping the males out of the air as they bob and weave all over the place, stopping only for a moment to check the grass for a hidden female. I had a full drawer of A1's and had not planned to get into a second drawer, but they are just too damned beautiful to resist, and I will be well into drawer #2 once I take the recent acquisitions off the boards. But I think this week will be the end of it up here in the north, so get them while you can.

I love the variability in the female eurytheme.
