Hi I have noticed 4-5 of these small white bugs (really small, maybe 1mm) in the alcove in my living room (Buckinghamshire, UK). A couple have had a brown tint to their abdomen. I have seen them at night and during the day. On the same day I brought some kiln dried firewood into the living room, but that has been stored in the opposite alcove. Maybe a coincidence. Thanks in advance.

It looks like a Psocid (book louse). The dried firewood is almost certainly a coincidence as they like humidity. Their food is invisible fungal mycelia which grows on damp surfaces or on paper, hence 'book louse' as they are often found on books. They eat the fungus and end up also eating the surface of whatever the fungus is growing on.
Adam.
