Hello everyone, my name is Leila. I woke up this morning to find this 'thing' on my kitchen shelves. and this little thing was resting on its own. When I finally mustered the courage to touch it, I realized it is an empty shell, almost like a peanut shell. I'm not sure the pictures do justice to the colour, but it is brownish/dark-redish. It has little lines and is about as big as a cooked grain of basmati rice. A little detail that might be helpful, the shell is covered with little fibres and hairs. For the record, I live in the Netherlands, near Utrecht. The area is a little humid and foresty and my apartment can get quite warm. With the summer/fall transition, temperatures are around 14 °C /49 °F. This is the first time I see something like that since I've moved in two weeks ago, the other insects I've seen were daddy long legs and a few flies here and there. Could someone please help me identify what this shell/insect is please? I apologize in advance for the quality of my pictures. Best regards, Leila

It looks exactly like that, thank you so much! Do you think it can be dangerous for food storage and could it be a sign that I'm infested with flies?
Best regards, Leila

Probably should avoid open food containers. If you don’t give them a food supply, eventually the adults will die and you will have interrupted their breeding cycle. Of course, this is not always easy and presumes new flies aren’t entering your home through open windows and such.
