Hi all, I've recently begun keeping two lovely bumblebee millipedes, they are being housed with some millipedes and isopods from around my house (Northern Ohio) in a 11x8x7 plastic critter keeper I used to house my (dearly departed </3) bold jumpers (P. audax) in. The substrate is primarily coco fibre, with a layer of potting soil (organic) near the top; decomposing leaves and pieces of soft wood are mixed in, additionally rocks and sticks are placed on top and throughout the about 4-5 inches of substrate for hides/areas for the isopods to congregate. I also added some of the moss included in the substrate packaging the millipedes arrived in.
Is this a suitable setup? I can see this is primarily a non arthropod forum, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. As far as supplements go I will be adding some vegetable peelings as well as some cuttlebone to ensure a diverse diet and nutritional health. Climate wise the enclosure is situated next to our snake tank which has a heat lamp directly above it so they are in the light but not directly under to avoid overheating. I mist the tank when I feel it is necessary but it is kept overall on the humid side for our tropical friends. Is there anything else I should know?
P.S. I know it is generally not recommend to cohabitate non native species with native ones, but since they have generally the same environmental needs and are able to coexist, I see no reason not to diversify my little microbiome (as long as everyone can play nice of course).
