Hi again, I've been light trapping in Northern Ohio over the summer using a very basic setup consisting of a sheet hung off the playset in my backyard and an old incandescent shop light that I found in my garage. Using this method in combination with some homemade bait smeared on trees around my yard yielded a decent variety of moths, the occasional beetle, and many miscellaneous night flying insects; however my ultimate goal is to have a mobile setup that doesn't require an outlet and utilizes a variety of light types (UV, mercury vapor, etc). I have heard of a few specialty items such as LepiLED and some popup tent screen thingie I don't remember the link to, but these are exceedingly expensive and being a broke high school student, I do not have the funds for something like this lol. I have seen a few tutorials out there for setups utilizing t-shirts and poles and hangers and all sorts of ramshackle DIY nonsense (not to knock them, just not what I'm looking for), but no solid info or cheaper options. Any sort of cordless light (especially one that has a screwable light bulb base) that charges or is battery run that is portable but also high powered enough to actually illuminate a sheet would be ideal, but I am definitely open to suggestions that have worked for others. This is just my hobby at the moment, but I hope to be studying biology in an independant style research program in college this time next year, so perhaps some of these more professional options may be within reach, but as for now I just want to be prepared for spring when the Saturniid moths come out in my region. Thank you all so much for any advice, suggestion, or tips.
