Can anyone elaborate as to what the current status is of Brazil's rainforest. I know, a ridiculous question however, I have noticed a distinct lack of any articles or otherwise reporting for quite some time about what is going on there.
In the early and mid 1990s there seem to be a lot of articles and discussion about the topic in both national geographic and other nature publications.
It is now been around 25 years since the heyday of all this talk of how to save it and the Indian cultures there.
So, I wonder if there is anything positive to report. Also, if the rainforest has continued to be further cut down and degraded is there any foreseeable hope for it.

There is no hope as long as Bolsonora is in charge in Brazil!

25% of what little remained compared to 50 years ago has gone since Bolsonaro took over. Indigenous people are being killed left right and centre by farmers who want their land, and almost nothing is being done to stop it.

Well that about sums it up. Don’t get any bright ideas about going there and saving it, all manner of environmentalists have disappeared as well.
I watched one documentary about the Brazilian cowboys and farmers- it was from their perspective and about retaining their culture- and the old farmer literally hated the rainforest; he saw it as useless, disease ridden, and far better turned to field.
Like all countries, the corruption goes all the way to the top. Nothing will change for Brazil until the UN or whomever actually decides to do something. In our area, apples have become huge money, so 120 year old regrowth is being clearcut at an incredible rate. Sad.

I am afraid Amazonia in the 22nd century will remain forested only in French Guiana. Overpopulation, poverty, corruption are too big in the rest of South America to protect the Amazonian forest. Personnally I think the UN troops should invade Amazonia and protect it. When a child is beaten by his parents, we place him under state protection. We should do the same with the Amazonian forest... easier to say than to do though...

UN ? That’s another corrupted organization. They will go and do around their business only when the sponsors and founders can profit from directly or indirectly. Check who’s behind UN, Gates is one of them and please don’t tell me that he is a good philanthropist and doing everything “good” without seeing big profits. Ups we slip to politics again. Let me just get this straight in case moderators would like to censor my post as “politics or religion” related. I didn’t start talk about UN and I just opposing an idea to get this organization involved with saving the Amazon.

Check who’s behind UN, Gates is one of them It seems you have no clue about what the United Nations are... Maybe this would help : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_NationsThis said, I maintain that an international force should protect Amazonia from total destruction. UN or not, not really my point.

Maybe, but I think somewhere in Africa there are 1 or 2 rhinos being protected 24/7 by park rangers- that's what the natural world is facing.

Sad fact is that many of the remaining true natural regions are located where impoverished people live and they do what they must to survive . Another poster mentioned constant monitoring of a few rhinos; what’s the point? They might as well be put in a large “ natural “ enclosure in a zoo. Sad

There is the UN on paper, and the reality of the global manipulators. Just as US companies supplied and profited the Nazis during WW2, the same families, ultra rich, and conglomerates continue to pull the strings. I mean, seriously, who comprises the UN? People appointed by politicians, and politicians by their very nature are corrupt. And, specific to the statement, Gates and UN are well linked- of this there is plenty of info…and it’s not all charity work (if even that were on the up and up).
