Well…since deadstock can be stored for years and years, I wouldn’t guess that there would be seasonal fluctuations in supply, save for non-tropical species after the warm seasons. You can always check out insectnet’s list of suppliers or the classifieds for dried specimens.

Thanks for the reply. I should apologize for being so brief. I was testing the format of this forum. I was looking for perspective from persons like yourself. Actually, I have bought butterflies, moths and other insects from a half dozen different suppliers over the last 10 years or so and have had varied differences between what they have listed as stock and what they actually have to sell on any particular day. Some buy large numbers of specimens that last for years and others buy minimally only to run out quickly it seems. It seems like the best strategy would be to place an order right after major flight activities occur in different regions. I don't have all the books to tell me when certain leps. hatch in the various eco-regions. It seems like it would be good to focus on periods when lots of new stock is coming into the suppliers. If I could predict when that would be likely. I'll give as example an experience last year. I was wanting to order as many species of Euphaedra as I could from Dave at Insect World in San Diego. He had only a couple. He wrote me back a couple of week later to tell me that he had a big shipment coming in from Africa with Euphaedra included. I ended buying about 20 pairs all at once. Anyway I am sure people responding at these forums have a lot more experience that me. I'm also looking to expand my search for new suppliers. There are many that are not on the insectnet trader list. Some are going to be better than others in different ways so I'm looking for other to share their knowledge with me if they would. Thanks in advance. Randy

Stick with sellers on the list.
