I’ve kept some furniture stored in a storage facility in coastal Maine since May, 2021. It’s an old building and the units have open ceilings. I’m not storing any food and the few things I have in there are (were, anyway) extremely clean. When I went to move things out the other day I found dirt and egg looking matter along the inner edges of a bookshelf that the local pest company cannot ID. Everything else seems just as I left it. imgur.com/a/f04Pph6I’m worried about bedbugs or roaches from a neighboring unit but see no evidence of actual bugs in the space, which isn’t at all cluttered. I’m hoping it might be some less gross bug with wings, like moths, that then flew out the open ceiling… apparently some people do stockpile grains and food in the building. However, it looks disturbingly like bedbug waste from online photos Thanks in advance for any ideas or information.

Need a better photo. These are just small black specks in the photo, no way to make a definitive ID. Could be mold for all we know…

That doesn’t look like eggs.

Thank you, eurytides and Paul K. The photo is clearer in my camera than after the imgur transfer; I'll try to post a clearer image that shows the white egg-looking shapes. Either way, grateful for your feedback.

As a home repair expert- looks like mold and water staining. I wouldn't put too much faith in pest control, stick around here and find out why. Sometimes a spider will leave what must be excrement that can look like white globules.
