A professional entomologist told me once that insects are all to believed to have had 6 wings in the bgeinning and then evolved to have 4 and then some of them specialised 1 pair and seemed to have one left ( Like beetles, the forewing became the elytra and they still share the hindwing ) so the news that treehoppers have 6 is nothing asthonishing in this context.

I have also seen them very recently and quite closely but they are little frightful when we have a closer view.
