I see your giant cicada and offer the smallest I've ever seen in person.
The specimen to the right is the same one you showed above, while the left is the one that my mother-in-law caught for me. I lived in that area for 20 years and never saw anything like it

Vernon, it seems like a lot of the cicadas you showed skew towards the giant side, do you ever capture smaller species like the one above? I have never seen another one like this, so assume they're relatively uncommon.

Nope. Cicadettana calliope, actually fairly common in the right habitat (typically grassland)

tv, Regarding the very small grass feeding Cicadas, Here is a box with pinned and labeled adults, top two rows captured in my light traps here at my home location in SE Louisiana. I have captured at least two species of these very small Cicada species here. I know nothing about this group.
