Manfred, Was this species formerly called P. escalantiana ? Or am I confusing it with another prepona that looks similar. Have always desired to get one of these however, these are very few and far between here in the U.S. Prepona deiphile deiphile is the nominate subspecies from southern Brazil. And by the way, for me a different species than the forms from Central America. But everybody "chacun à son gout".

Thank you Adam,
I knew I had seen that ssp. escalantiana name applied to deiphile.
So, if Manfred has the nominate from south Brazil then escalantiana must be the subspecies from Mexico.
I think I have it straight now !

I sold off my drawers of Prepona, but kept a handful just to drool over.

My absolute favorite one is P. garleppiana which I sold off and now regret having done so. Luckily I have this pic of it. Should another one ever come by, I might have to splurge for it.

A recent study (Garcia, Turrent, Lopez & de la Maza, 2021) recognised 4 species plus 2 subspecies in South America and 4 further species plus 12 subspecies in Central America.
