Long story short it’s a nightmare You would need collecting permit in Ecuador plus export permit plus fill up forms to customs in US. If you are not with any scientific institution then yea it’s a mission impossible

It is not very hard to bring any insects from other countries, especially when they are dried and in envelopes. Just keep them in a small plastic box inside your luggage (checkin luggage). This might not work very well when traveling back to the US, though as their infamous TSA opens almost every luggage coming in from abroad, even when only in transit.

But it's illegal without permits. And in the US, they will inspect your luggage and the fine can be huge, so don't take risks for nothing. Apply for permits, and if you get them, bring back your insects. Don't play the Russian roulette.
