Nonetheless, the false eyes on the wings of many real butterflies and moths are quite striking, with Owl Butterflies (Caligo spp.) being among the most famous examples - And, there are some insects that almost look as if they were hand-painted, such as the large South American longhorn beetle, Acrocinus longimanus -

Nice photos, linvingplanet3! It's a pity that the A.longimanus loses its color, even in complete darkness. Fortunately, there is no problem with Caligo.
