A nice female specimen I recently acquired of a large tropical African swallowtail, Papilio ophidicephalus - ![](https://photos.bravenet.com/412/196/682/1/66DCF2EA73.jpg) A live example of the species - ![](https://alchetron.com/cdn/papilio-ophidicephalus-6f9955eb-4e29-4e38-89e1-6d7fae7b7e9-resize-750.jpeg) And the larva - ![](https://afromacro.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/papilio-ophidicephalus-phalusco-5th-instar-larva-with-ostometrium-extended-2.jpg) It belongs to the menestheus species group, which in some respects, is the African analogue of the thoas species group of the Americas. The larvae of both feed on Rutaceae.

Absolutely grand species indeed !
Widespread species of some variation. Nice long tails and I am sure a joy to see in life.
Well done 👍.
