Hey everyone, I'm looking to get into keeping beetles. I have absolutely no experience and a bunch of questions. Primarily, where I can go to get good beetles?
Every website I've found so far is either out of stock, a scam, or based extremely far away (I live in California) I would obviously like a nice big iconic beetle like a rhino or hercules beetle but I'm not sure how beginner friendly those are, or how they tend to be priced. Preferably I'd like to raise it from a larvae.
Another thing I'm curious about is if there's any kind of beetles I should avoid in my area and climate. Like I said I'm in California on the coast, so I'm afraid the salty sea air might bother some species.
I've watched a few videos on keeping beetles and raising larvae and it seems pretty straight forward but I'd like to be as well informed as possible to avoid wasting money and any lives of beetles I might keep poorly.
Anyone who wants to share their beetle experience I am here to learn. Thanks everybody

beetleforum is a great source, most beetle rearing is done indoors, so your climate is of no matter. There are some good sellers of livestock as well, availability is the main issue, Bugsincyberspace is based in Portland Oregon, and a good resource, and there are others. You can only try, everything looks easy once it's on youtube-

I raised a Dynastes granti once. Just kept giving the thing bananas and it lived for several weeks. Eventually it died naturally and now it's a specimen in my collection

If you are on Facebook, there are a lot of beetle breeding groups you could check out and join. Just search FB for "beetles" and then look under Groups. One of the biggest is Beetles Farm-PP a private group with over 11,000 memebers. Just ignore the VW Beetle car groups! Hope this helps.
